Highlights
I'm humbled and honored to receive the 2023 Excellence in Philanthropy award from the Greensboro News & Record. It is easy, fun, and rewarding to get involved in community service in a city like Greensboro, where there are so many incredible organizations and people working to make Greensboro a more equitable and vibrant place.
I want to thank in this character-limited post(!) the folks I have had the honor to partner with over my first 4ish years in Greensboro:
-
Jodee Ruppel, Carrie Stewart, Sarah K. McGuire, and Lizzy Tahsuda for helping me get my bearings, being gracious with your expansive networks, and plugging me in to the causes I care about.
-
Councilwoman Nancy Hoffmann and councilwoman Tammi Thurm for guiding me to service work with the City of Greensboro Parks & Rec department and trusting me to represent the interests of my fellow city residents.
-
Nasha McCray, AICP, Kobeyeh Riley, M.S., Shawna Tillery, MPA, Haley Wilson, my fellow Parks & Rec Commissioners and a slew of P&R staff for creating and maintaining parks and recreation spaces that are welcoming, accessible, and drive social change in our city.
-
Margaret Benjamin for your thoughtful and generous partnership in our crash course in municipal bond advocacy during the 2022 election.
-
Caitlin H. Stay for your curious and open-minded approach to the mission and goals of the Children's Home Society of North Carolina's Community Leadership Council.
-
Jodee for curating a vibrant, diverse, and engaged cohort of young professionals in Greensboro to make the efforts of Future Fund of Greensboro feel current and impactful.
-
Cecelia Thompson, Bramley Crisco, Sarah, Candace Martin, M.A., and Jay Cannon, M.S. of Action Greensboro for too many programs/initiatives/ideas to name but that are always meaningful, fun, and innovative.
-
Keir Davis for encouraging me to join Summit Rotary Club, and for your strong support of volunteerism and corporate social responsibility at Xtern Software (thanks to our partners Jaye Webb and Sarah Glover at United Way of Greater Greensboro, Jay at Campus Greensboro, Alex Zaleski at City of Greensboro, Katelyn Cohen-Kivett at University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Mary Herbenick at Guilford Nonprofit Consortium). And to my coworkers for being game to pick up litter, teach computer literacy, and supervise summer interns.
Last but not least, a huge and heartfelt thanks to my husband, parents, and kids.
A few weeks back, my assistant Parks & Rec Commissioner joined me to cut the ribbon to commemorate the reopening of Peeler Recreation Center. She patiently sat through many different speakers before enjoying hot dogs and baked beans cooked by the Greensboro Police Department. Her older brother declared it "NOT FAIR" that she got to do this, so I'm hoping for another ribbon cutting soon :)
