Emily Murphy

Associate Professor of Law

Emily Murphy is a highly educated professional with a diverse academic background. She obtained a JD from Stanford University Law School, a Postdoc in Neuroethics from Stanford Medical School, a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience as a Gates Cambridge Scholar at the University of Cambridge, and an A.B. in Psychology/Mind, Brain, Behavior from Harvard University. With extensive experience in academia and the legal field, Emily currently holds the position of Associate Professor Of Law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Previously, she served as an Academic Fellow and Lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles, practiced as an Attorney at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, and completed clerkships at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Federal Public Defender of the Northern District of California. Additionally, she gained valuable experience as a Summer Associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, a Certified Law Student at Three Strikes Project, Mills Legal Clinic, and as a Research Fellow at Stanford Law School and the MacArthur Foundation Law and Neuroscience Project's Network on Criminal Responsibility and Prediction.
