I am having so much fun at the Dysautonomia International conference! I was honored to speak during the CME session yesterday on non-pharma approaches to POTS (the only non-MD speaker!) and present my dissertation research to the patient and fellow Dysautonomia research communities. Connecting with colleagues, many of which for the first time in person, and navigating my first in-person conference since having the baby… it has been amazing! Thank you to Lauren Stiles and the entire DI team!

Reflecting on 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣… a lot happened! Most of it felt like personal things that drew my focus toward my family and away from my public and professional life. I had a baby and took some time away from the clinic for the 2nd half of the year to spend time with my family. 👶🏽

📚 AND in the background, I’ve continued pressing on toward my PhD in occupational therapy. Along the way, I was 1 of 3 individuals to receive an award from the Graduate Council at Texas Woman’s University for Exceptional, Original Scholarship. I am told that I was the first ever student in the School of Occupational Therapy at TWU to get this award. I am proud of this!

🙏 I am incredibly grateful to the POTS patient community, as this award wouldn’t have been given if not for them driving me to do this research in POTS. The goal of my dissertation is to develop a comprehensive, multimodal approach to treating POTS using a group-based self-management model. I know it’s needed. I know it can help at least one person.

📓In my application for this award I wrote: “[a]t the root of my work and the dedication it requires lies a patient population experiencing immense suffering... I would be honored and elated if chosen for this award, as this research extends far beyond the pages of manuscripts and recognizes the lives of those suffering an invisible illness.”

✨ This award is dedicated to the patients. Thank you for participating in my research. Thank you for trusting me with deeply personal information. Thank you for asking good questions. Thank you for continuing to press on, every day.
