Lately, I've found myself missing appointments and meetings—not because they weren’t in the diary, but because they just slipped my mind. It wasn’t until after the fact that I realised what I’d missed.

This is a prime example of the mental load—the invisible, often overwhelming weight of responsibilities, tasks, and concerns we carry in our minds daily. Whether it's work-related pressures, personal commitments, or just the constant juggling of everything life throws at us, this mental burden can be all-consuming and, at times, debilitating.

Have you ever been so overwhelmed by this mental load that things start slipping through the cracks? If so, you're not alone.

Here are a few strategies that have helped me manage:

1️⃣ Exercise: Prioritise a little bit of exercise every day—it really makes a difference.

2️⃣ Breaks: Step outside or take short, frequent breaks throughout the day. A change of scenery or just a few moments to breathe can work wonders.

3️⃣ Time Management: Regularly review your to-do list and calendar. Using reminders or time-blocking can help keep important tasks top of mind.

4️⃣ Boundaries: Set and respect boundaries, especially around work hours and personal time. Giving yourself space to unwind is essential.

5️⃣ Self-Compassion: Be kind to yourself. Acknowledge that it’s okay to miss things or have off days—you’re only human.

How do you manage those moments when it all feels like too much? I'd love to hear your strategies.

I recently read an insightful article by Ahmed Ali, a U.S.-based businessman, in The CEO Magazine Global. I was particularly struck by the five lessons he shared, which have been shaped by his family, work, and beliefs:

⭐ Learn Your Core Values: Use your values as the foundation for success. Carry them into your roles as leaders, mentors, and world-changers, and lean on them during tough times.

⭐ Know Who You Are: Develop a strong sense of self-identity. Embrace your uniqueness, as it will be a cornerstone of your success.

⭐ Find Your Passion: Pursue your goals with passion. If your career isn't aligned with your passions, have a plan to make it happen.

⭐ Your Company Is Bigger Than You: The greatest success comes to those who put others first. As leaders, we have a responsibility to make an impact beyond ourselves.

⭐ Define Your Legacy: Keep the big picture in mind and think about what you want to leave behind for those who come after you.

What do you think?
