I don’t think (good) teachers want GenAI to make their lesson plans or resources. So what do I want to use these tools for? ⏱️ I want to save time. 👾 I want to explore how tech could improve some of the tasks I set or resources I’ve made to make them more accessible or maybe more engaging.
Getting AI to save me time involves investing time to learn how to get the most out of it. For example, I make myself an excel document to use as a planner for the year. It has rows for every school day of the year and columns for what week it is, class names, lesson title, requisitions etc It takes me ages to make from scratch but with a bit of trial and error I got Claude to make it for me and now next year it’ll only take 10 mins.
Other things I’ve tried this week is using Claude artifacts to make a page of interactive Frayer models (see below - it’s not perfect but I now know the potential), a ‘higher-lower’ online game based on food webs, short answer questions about a graphic of a food web found online and also a poster for my desk to remind me to practice some key strategies this year.
All the time I have to remember to think about if there’s already something out there that will do the task I want AND if the thing is actually going to improve learning , because it is easy to get carried away and I kind of love the buzz I get from thinking something up and managing to make it with just basic skills 🤩

Today’s play with Claude Artifacts is a 3x3 Elements bingo game. Simple but effective (if your students have their own device in class). I’m sure someone can remix this and make it better 🙂
