Howdy from maternity leave 🤠 !

In true LinkedIn fashion I thought I’d share a little of what I’ve learned with somewhat corresponding emojis.

🏔 If you feel like you can’t do it you probably can do it.

We’ve all been there - the role you’re thinking of applying to but don't because you don’t have the exact experience.

Imposter syndrome stopping you from taking a seat at the table, taking the speaking slot, voicing your opinion.

Well, when you become a parent for the first time it’s highly unlikely you’ve done it before. You are going into parenting with ZERO EXPERIENCE on your resume.

And, unlike most jobs, a life depends on your ability to do this job.

So you step it up, you make it work, you master the shit storms (literally in this case.)

You kind of just fucking figure it out.

⏳ Time is our most valuable currency.

Don’t get me wrong, I think money is great but there are 805,302,902+ ways to accumulate it (just ask your nearest Mary Kay rep).

Time is constantly disappearing.

This feels even more apparent when you have a being who is continuously evolving one week to the next. He will be a completely different person a year from now.

And there’s no way to Benjamin Button that shit.

Time is a privilege not a right, all the more reason to live by the ‘ol saying of WeWork - “Do What You Love.”

🤝 Community is life.

We are social creatures, so much of what we need in life is garnered from communities - from identity to moral support.

I’ve never leaned on communities more than I have in the last few months - family, friends, and the most welcoming community I’ve joined yet - parenthood.

You get out what you put in, folks.

👯‍♀️ Women are stronger than I’ve ever thought.

Holy hell there is a lot about pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare that is not even close to entering the mainstream.

Everything that is messy, uncomfortable, or ‘inappropriate’ is tucked away out of view.

Having gone through the initial phases of motherhood myself I just want to say to the other women on here that I SEE YOU AND DANG YOU ARE INCREDIBLE.

Not just the mothers, but to all the women who carefully keep their challenges under wraps and show up to work with a smile on their face.

Anyway, that's all for my ramblings. (And his name is Auggie, he's perfect, and I will see y'all in July! 👋 )

I feel like we need more than one day but I'll take it.

It's fitting that my last day before maternity leave is International Women's Day, and while I can get hung up on all the work we still have to do, progress we need to make, glass ceilings we need to shatter, I'll go for something a bit more positive since it's Friday late afternoon and our brains are fried.

To all the women I've had the opportunity to work alongside, this is to you.

To all the women who've showed me that empathy is powerful, this is to you.

To all the women who've showed me that executives don't have to be "EXECUTIVES" to be damn effective, this is to you.

To all the women who've lifted up other women, this is to you.

To all the women who have been chewed up, spat out, and not only got back up but are even stronger for it, this is to you.

To all the women who have not been taken seriously but quietly climbed the ranks nonetheless, this is to you.

To all the women who are incredible at what they do, but still fight imposter syndrome regularly, this is to you.

To all the women who started as colleagues but are now friends, mentors, happy hour honeys, travel companions, and future badass role models for my son (🥺), this is to you🥂.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY.
