Yes, it is time for another post about the Employee Retention Credit (ERC.) Many of you have or have heard of other business owners getting calls about the ERC. A few key things that you should know before working with any company offering to get your company an ERC refund:

  • The ERC is a legitimate legal program offered through filing IRS payroll amended forms (941X.)

  • Eligibility is based on comparing business activity in a calendar quarter in 2019 vs the same quarter in 2020 or 2021.

  • Businesses qualify by quarter based on limits on business capacity due to government orders OR revenue declines.

  • If a business qualifies, the process is not as simple as taking the # of employees times a $$ amount (you will sometimes hear $26,000 or $28,000 per employee.) There are many restrictions and rules that limit what is available.

  • The ERC refund for many companies can be significant so it is worth investigating if a business is eligible.

  • Once the forms are filed, it can take up to 6 months to receive checks from the IRS.

  • Many firms charge a 15% - 35% fee. EDGe Business Planning fees are <10%.

  • The 1st deadline to file for ERC is not until April 15, 2024. Some firms are trying to pressure you into filing right away.

  • There is not a risk of ERC running out of money. This is a refund of payroll taxes already paid by the business.   If your business is considering applying for the ERC, please reach out to us for a free consultation. Even if you decide to file the ERC yourself or go with another company that will file the ERC for you, we want to make sure that you understand what the ERC is or isn’t.   Our goal at EDGe is to maximize the ERC available while making sure that the rules are being followed to minimize the risk of an IRS audit.

If you are a business owner, I am sure you have been getting plenty of calls and emails that you are eligible for the Employee Retention Credit (ERC.) Claims of up to $26,000 per employee and big $$ coming your way are common. The good news - the ERC is real and your business may very well qualify for ERC. However, the requirements to qualify are complex and you need a team that is well versed in the ERC rules. We have filed over $14M in ERC refunds for clients. At EDGe, our goal is to maximize your ERC $$ while minimizing the risk of an IRS audit. We want you to get the money you deserve, at a fair price, and not lose sleep worrying about future IRS audits. Reach out to EDGe Business Planning ([email protected]) and we can discuss your situation with you for free to determine if you may be eligible.
