Highlights
After eight years and three mandates, tomorrow is the last day of my final term as a member of ESMA’s Securities and Markets Stakeholders Group. Going back through my archives, I find that during that time we’ve collectively published over 85 different papers, reports and advice to ESMA on a range of issues of importance to ESMA’s mandate. In the spirit of transparency, all are available in the public domain. The time has now come to pass this responsibility on to the next generation of Stakeholders. I have enjoyed working with ESMA staff and stakeholders immensely, it has been a uniquely challenging and rewarding experience, and while we did not always see eye-to-eye on all issues, I think that the work collectively produced has been of tremendous quality. Thank you to ESMA, Steven Maijoor, Verena Ross and Natasha Cazenave together with the staff, for their support and their openness. Thank you to the many stakeholders I’ve been privileged to work with over that time, and in particular to Rüdiger Veil and Veerle Colaert who in their mandate as Chair were tireless in forging an articulate consensus out of contrasting views. It has been an honour to be a part of the adventure of ESMA's early days (hence the picture below of the old offices!). There remains much ahead still to be achieved and I wish much success to ESMA's staff and leadership and to the next Stakeholder Group as they take up the mantle.
