Erik Hom

Erik Hom is a Principal Investigator and Head Coach at the University of Mississippi, leading a research lab that focuses on microbial interactions and symbiosis.2 He has a background in biophysics with a focus on physical chemistry. His current research primarily investigates how microbes adapt to live together symbiotically, particularly at the gene and metabolic levels.2

Erik earned his BS in Industrial Administration and BA in French from Carnegie Mellon University. After graduation, he worked for Citicorp in North American Investment Banking and later for Norwegian Cruise Lines.1 He then pursued an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he was selected as a LEAD facilitator for 1st year MBAs.1

Following his MBA, Erik joined Accenture's San Francisco office as a Management Consultant, advising clients in Healthcare, Retail, and Financial Services. He later transitioned to the startup world, holding leadership roles in Business Development, Corporate Development, Strategic Partnerships, and Sales for both digital eCommerce startups and traditional retailers' eCommerce divisions.1

Currently, Erik invests in and consults for startups in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is also a co-owner of multiple Ben & Jerry's franchises. Erik maintains connections with the MBA community, serving as an advisor and coach at the UC Berkeley Business Plan Competition and the annual Chicago Booth Leadership Challenge.1
