Dr. Erika Dillard is a physician-entrepreneur and the Founder and CEO of PopCheck Technologies, Inc. She received her BS from Vanderbilt University in 2001, where she created an interdisciplinary major in neurobiology and neuroscience.2 Dr. Dillard then went on to earn her M.D./Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.2
After completing her medical training, Dr. Dillard pursued a neurosurgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia.2 During her residency, she recognized the need for an at-home device to monitor post-surgical patients for blood clots, which led to the founding of PopCheck Technologies in 2019.1
PopCheck Technologies is a Memphis-based startup that uses artificial intelligence-driven monitoring technology to help prevent clots in surgical patients recovering at home.2 The company aims to improve patient outcomes and reduce rehospitalizations by predicting the development of venous blood clots in high-risk populations, such as those recovering from total joint replacements.3
Dr. Dillard's work with PopCheck Technologies has gained recognition in the medical technology industry. The company was selected as one of only 50 companies from 49 countries to participate in the esteemed MedTech Innovator program in Boston in October 2022.1 As of 2022, PopCheck Technologies was raising a Pre-Seed round of $1 million to expand their team, develop their MVP, and pursue regulatory strategies for breakthrough device designation and FDA de novo classification.1
In addition to her work with PopCheck, Dr. Dillard is an active advocate for the Life Science industry in Tennessee.1 She has also participated in international medical volunteer work, including a trip to Ghana with Kusudi International to provide medical services, therapy, and supplies to schools and medical clinics.4
