One of my favorite ways to activate at Protect Our Winters is through storytelling. I think inspirational storytelling is wildly underdeveloped in the climate and environmental movements, despite having MOTHER NATURE for main character energy.

Case-in-point: according to The New York Times, recent polls have found that most Americans are unaware of the (terribly named) Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. This law is the largest government investment ever in reducing carbon pollution. We're talking $370 B's here. Facts alone aren't getting the job done.

Inspirational education, training, and storytelling are pillars of our work at POW. We do this by giving grants to our network of outdoor-loving athletes, scientists, and artists to help tell their stories. Being a professional athlete today is insane. Not only do you have to put up the craziest lines or fastest times ever, you also have to be a world class content creator to stay relevant. We embrace this.

So we are going deep with outdoor creators, like painter/filmmaker Max Romey of Trailbound Sketches in his gorgeous new film "Footprints on Katmai." In partnership with our sure-footed friends at KEEN, Hahnemühle USA Inc., and Ocean Plastics Recovery Project LLC, we're helping Max sketch his journey through remote Alaskan beaches, unexpected footprints, and human legacy. I was deeply touched by this one and as a bonus, his kid is super cute.

Thank you Bloomberg Green and Jason Kelly for an informative and fun festival for climate action. Our Protect Our Winters athlete advocacy lead/professional alpinist Graham Zimmerman spoke alongside paralympi skier and Racing to Zero Advisor Erin Latimer on how we are safeguarding the future for outdoor recreation and athletic competition. Athletes are good at movement and movement-building. I think they're one of our best shots for driving the cultural and political will needed to build cleaner human systems.
