Highlights
A few years ago, I used to speak at 20+ conferences a year. I hosted a podcast with a regular listener base of 4000 - 5000 per episode. My work was featured in HubSpot, CBC, Forbes, and Canadian Business.
More recently, my business was scaling up on our way out of the pandemic and I felt great about the trajectory of things.
However, a sudden personal loss created a tsunami of change and I retreated from the world for more than a year.
I had a chance to connect with my friend Kim Westlund on her podcast to share more about that experience, how it shaped me, and how it impacted my work and personal life.
I saw parallels with the grieving process in many of the founders I connected with after a project or company failed. This isn't something we talk about enough.
In our conversation, you'll hear about the very real impacts of stress on cognition and physical health, as well as what I used to pull myself out.
We talk about EARNING resilience and compassion, and the importance of felt experience.
If that sounds interesting, give it a watch or a listen.
Big thank you to Kim for drawing me out into daylight. You've inspired me to get back to publishing!

Can we imagine a different future?
When I was younger, I would spend hours immersed in Isaac Asimov’s visions of the future. For days and weeks, I would travel in spaceships, build robots, work with AI, and go on adventures exploring other planets.
It was an innocent, childlike vision of what the future would look like.
And I yearn for that again.
In some ways, I think we all do.
The current narrative of the future we are marching toward is… different.
Climate change. Resource depletion. Changing disease patterns. Rising food, water, and energy costs. Water scarcity. Political instability. AI creating economic disparity instead of a renaissance in science and art. Areas of the planet becoming inhospitable to human life. Fertility decline…
It’s the kind of future that is more Mad Max than Star Trek.
Somewhere along the way, we lost the plot line.
The future we once imagined has shifted to dystopian undertones depicted in Elysium, The Creator, Blade Runner 2049, or Ready Player One (yes, I’m a sci-fi nerd).
I believe there is a collective yearning to weave different narratives into our cultural conversations — narratives that inspire generations of entrepreneurs and innovators to build the kind of future we all truly wish to live in, however improbable that may appear at the moment.
This year, I will strive to find more of these innovators and impact-system supporters to share their stories. Maybe we can start intentionally shaping the narrative together.
I would love to create more conversations around hope and possibilities.
Do you know any visionary innovators or impactful projects shaping a positive future? Share them in the comments so we can amplify their reach.
