Highlights
Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦 Today and every day, I am grateful to live in this beautiful country and to experience the freedoms we do. I’m grateful to those who have have come before me and paved the way, for those who have fought, and died, for the freedoms I now enjoy. Canada is certainly not perfect, but it is a safe haven for many, known for hospitality and kindness. We set the table and create spaces where the stranger becomes a friend. I’m proud to be Canadian, while also acknowledging that we can do better…I can do better.
I was honored to be asked to be part of this special Canada Day interview on 700 Club Canada along with Finu Iype, Pastor of Village Church, as we share the hope we have for our nation, and stories of lives transformed by God’s grace. It’s a joy and honor to have a front-row seat through my role at Alpha Canada to see God at work across cultures, denominations, and generations. I hope this interview brings hope to many.
Let’s continue in prayer together that God would keep our land glorious and free 🙏🏼
Thank you to Ray Pennings and Rev. Dr. Andrew Bennett at Cardus for hosting a fantastic conversation yesterday unpacking data from a recent Canadian survey in partnership with Canadian Bible Society to explore what Canadian Christians believe.
A few key takeaways from the panel with Cardinal Thomas Collins, Pastor Joel St. John, Rev. Stephen Andrews:
- This is a groundswell moment for youth/next Gen
- As churches we may need to go back to the basics of the Christian language of the church where the language and understanding may be missing for younger generations(ie: “Trinity” “Gospel” and “incarnate”)
- Most Christians are taking in multiple Christian sources like online church, podcasts, books etc. each week creating less sense of belonging to just one church parish
- Perhaps we go too quickly to catechesis and need to start with evangelization
- We might be too quick to point people to a tradition, rather than to Jesus who says, Come to Me
“The more secular we become, the deeper we need to go.” - Cardinal Collins
Move from “community” to “communion” forming deeper relationships and bonds with one another - Pastor Joel St. John
