I went into the "White Dudes for Harris" call last night with tongue firmly in cheek and ready for a nap after a long day. Almost 3 hours later I finally signed off the call energized, deeply moved, and frankly blown away by the force of what my friend Ross Morales Rocketto & others organized over the course of just a few days. whitedudesforharris.com
A lot of people are talking about the political and fundraising aspects of the call, which of course are essential. But what struck me most was just how unusual it felt to get thousands of men together to talk about loneliness, love, kindness, strength and solidarity across race, gender, class, and all the other false divides. I've been in or around politics and organizing for nearly 20 years, and I've never seen or been a part of anything like it.
White men coming together en masse to fight for solidarity and justice — and not to stew in resentment or to spew hate — is radical. It shouldn't be, but it is.
MAGA wants to speak for white men, and when we stay silent, we let them. But the most vulnerable people in this country and around the world cannot afford for white men to stay silent. Certainly not in this election.
