Volunteer Opportunity with the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance
The Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance is working with the BC Ministry Region 8 Wildlife Biologist team in collecting adult and kid mountain goat counts. The data collected will be used to help identify herd size and risk of diseases such as Mycoplasma Ovipneumoniae within the herd.
There will be a series of counts being completed between July 20th and August 17th. Counts will be conducted on Wednesdays with the ministry team and ideally a volunteer-based count each weekend (depending on volunteer turnout).
Each count will consist of 3 groups of 3 people. Volunteers must be physically prepared to hike steep terrain and cover up to 20 km in summer temperatures. Due to the high temperatures, we will be departing for these counts via boat in the early morning approx between 4-5 am.
We are also looking for volunteers who have boats that would be willing to help ferry people into the Okanagan Mountain Park.
If you are interested in participating in these counts, please email our Regional Representative Danny Coyne at [email protected]
Hey everyone! As many of you know, my partner and I participate in various conversation projects throughout BC. Today I am excited to announce that I have been elected as a director at Hunters for BC (https://huntersforbc.ca/).
We have a few projects on the go:
- Pennask Rehabilitation and Wildlife Enhancement
- Access Management Projects
- Highway 97 Mule Deer Mortality Study
- Predator and Prey Science & Engagement
- Tristan Montjoy Scholarship
These projects are largely funded by membership and some very epic raffles. If you are a conservationist, a hunter or an angler who wants to help us with our initiatives, please consider membership.
For those who want to win awesome prizes while supporting conservation check out our ongoing raffle (https://lnkd.in/gYpsVbAK). The raffle ends today, so please be sure to check this one out as soon as possible! 🙂
To my friends in the outdoor industry: let’s connect if you want to support conversation while advertising your business. The support from our partners helps us raise funds to deploy cameras, collect data, conduct research and make positive changes in BC.
