🌎It’s a BIG planet, but a small world!🌏

RADM Mike Studeman and I just so happened to both be visiting the United States Naval Academy today. We owe our mutual friend Rodney Bullard (THANK YOU!) for the original e-introduction during COVID as I was first exploring the Navy’s DCO programs for INTEL, PAO and Supply. Today was indeed a special moment to cross paths while he was at a book signing for Midshipmen. “Might of the Chain: Forging Leaders of Iron Integrity” is a must read! The topic and discussion is desperately needed today.

A few years ago I was invited to give a guest lecture to a combined business ethics and political science class at my Alma mater, Georgia College & State University. What topic could transcend both politics and business?!? Trust! RADM Studeman, countless Americans and I recognize the disturbing reality in that our nation faces a crisis of leadership today. He, as I did then, referenced a Gallup poll that showed a few staggering statistics:

⛓️‍💥ONLY 21% of American workers trust their leaders ⛓️‍💥ONLY 2% trust in Congress ⛓️‍💥ONLY 1 in 3 trust media ⛓️‍💥ONLY 15% trust Washington to do what is right ⛓️‍💥80% agreed there was a leadership crisis in both the U.S. government AND corporate America ⛓️‍💥60% agreed that “I don’t see any leaders at my company today that I aspire to be”

With so much broken trust, could we or should we be pessimistic or feel defeated? Do we want to just survive or thrive as individuals and teams? RADM Studeman maintains that this national crisis will persist and we’ll continue to grow numb UNLESS we get back to the fundamentals…the leadership basics: good character, respect, civility, factual information and moral courage.

⛓️”On the strength of one link of the cable dependeth the might of the chain.”⛓️⚓️

Will we each of us do our part to strengthen our own lives and do our part of lift the world around us? “Might of the Chain” will be a reminder and guide for me as I seek do my part: to forge a chain…a legacy. Will you join me as we contribute our individual and collective links of the chain?

🇺🇸E Pluribus Unum!🇺🇸

“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.”

  • Coach Vince Lombardi

If you know me well, you know that I have an incredible passion for Naval Aviation and the Blue Angels. I grew up visiting NAS Pensacola and never wanted to miss a practice or airshow. I have come to admire the culture, character, and competencies of these aviators.

Formally named the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels pursue pride, professionalism, and perfectionism in ALL they do. The team, officers and enlisted alike, give every effort knowing that this pursuit is witnessed not just in maneuvers alone, but in each little moment of each day.

“The Blue Angels” documentary is must watch for anyone who wants climb higher and faster in any area of their business, leadership, service, or life. Amazon, MGM Studios, and IMAX brings this to the screen and I know it will inspire you as much as it inspired me.

The film is a fitting tribute to the extraordinary teamwork, passion, and pride of the hundreds of outstanding men and women of the Navy and Marine Corps who have had the honor to serve in the Blue Angels squadron...past, present and future. I’m particularly grateful to those mentors, friends, and relationships that have directly exposed me to this Blue Angel pursuit, from up close and afar, in recent years. BZ to CAPT Garrett Kasper, CDR Joe Hontz, CMP, CDR Jon Fay, LT Chelsea Dietlin, LCDR Lance “Bubb” Benson, LCDR Cary “Chewy” Rickoff, and even a Crew Chief from the 1998 team that presented me with my first Blue Angel lithograph (those that know, know). You all set the example!
