“I think it really tells women that you can choose motherhood and also be at the top of your game and not have to miss a beat," said Felix.”
Watching the video of Allyson Felix’s announcement of the first-ever nursery in the Olympic Village made me tear up. I may not be an Olympic athlete, but I’m definitely a mom at the top of my game. I commute out of state each week to kick ass at a job that allows me to have incredible impact, and while I miss my kiddo terribly when I travel, her hugs when I walk through the door at the end of each week feel like a gold medal. I hope that she will one day understand the power of having a mom like me, and see that she can choose to do both (if she wants!).
I can ONLY IMAGINE the power of watching your parent compete in the Olympic games, better yet getting one of those gold-medal hugs from a kiddo waiting to greet you after you have, in fact, won a gold medal.
Allyson Felix has fought some hard battles to have her roles as mother and elite athlete be recognized in equal measure. To turn around from that and produce THIS?! That is the pinnacle of creating a path for others, so that they don’t have to fight the same fight you did. I’m inspired beyond measure.

A few times a month, I get requests from people to meet and talk about my career and get guidance for their own. The specific ask might be slightly different - academics transitioning to industry, DEI consultants who want to go internal, or DEI practitioners who want to compare notes - but the end result is usually a 30-minute conversation. Unfortunately, my calendar is reaching max capacity for these 1:1 requests, but I'm wondering...
If I were to host monthly "office hours" style conversations...would you come?
LMK in the comments...!
