A Year in Review pt.2: The Creative Outside of law school, I spent most of my year in the LSESU Drama Society as a performer and its Marketing Officer. Though LinkedIn is a platform primarily for career progressions and achievements, my profile simply would not reflect me if I did not mention my love for performing. If there is anywhere to develop resilience and teamwork, it’s theatre. Spending nearly 10 hours a week in rehearsals was certainly demanding, but it was so rewarding to pour all our efforts together towards the final product: three fantastic nights of 9 to 5 the Musical. I have always had a keen interest (and keen eye—I hope) in branding design and marketing. This year, my two big projects were promoting the Society’s productions of Laramie Project and 9 to 5. Looking back, I am so thankful I entered the race last-minute during the first AGM and was elected as Marketing Officer—it is this role that confirmed my desire to continue pursuing my passion and aptitude in this area. While I love studying Law and am keen on a legal career, being a creative is formative in who I am. I look forward to how I will integrate my legal and artistic interests in the future.
A Year in Review pt.1: The Academic
Term ended this week, and yesterday I moved out of my student halls—marking an official end to my first year at university. Upon reflection, I see my personal growth in the academic and the creative, forming a basis and foundation to look forward.
Before reading Law, I was told law school would teach me to think like a lawyer. True, but more than that, it teaches me how to think. While a yearning for knowledge and critical analysis is needed, clarity of thought is key. Through feedback and practice, I am working to foster the skills needed in developing clear, coherent, and insightful arguments.
The learning curve is steep… but I feel I am on an upwards climb.
Despite feeling unsatisfied with my initial performances in moots, I was motivated and guided by concrete advice from moot judges of the LSESU Law Society to refine my thinking and argumentative skills. It was therefore rewarding and fulfilling for me to represent LSE eventually in the KCL-LSE Intervarsity Moot, as well as the University Mock Trial World Championship 2022 organised by Cambridge University Mock Trial Society.
These breakthroughs serve as acknowledgements of and encouragements for my growth in not just written and oral advocacy but also thinking—thinking in a critical, compelling, and organised manner.
