Evelyn Marcelina Rangel-Medina is an Assistant Professor of Law at Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law.1 She teaches courses in Criminal Procedure, Employment Law, Latinxs & the Law, and Citizenism: Race & Immigration.1 Her research focuses on racial subordination, particularly examining how documentation status enforcement and national security policies impact citizens of color.1

Rangel-Medina graduated from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and holds three Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.1 Before her academic career, she worked as a managing director at United for Respect and Restaurant Opportunities Centers United, advocating for labor rights and supporting low-wage workers.1

In her recent work, Rangel-Medina has introduced the concept of "citizenism," which explores how citizenship is used to perpetuate structural racism.3 She published an article titled "Citizenism: Racialized Discrimination by Design" in the Boston University Law Review in 2024.3

Prior to joining Temple Law, Rangel-Medina was the inaugural Visiting Assistant Professor at the Center for Racial and Economic Justice at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.1 She has also been involved with the Fred T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality.4

Rangel-Medina is known for her work as an organizer, movement lawyer, public policy advocate, and campaign manager, collaborating with various nonprofit organizations.2
