Last weekend, the San Francisco Giants celebrated our Annual African American Heritage Night. The event was graced by impactful leaders in our community. The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Dr. Clarence B. Jones, speechwriter, advisor, legal representative, and personal friend of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Jones was joined by his dear friend and supporter, Stephen Curry. We were also honored to have Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Bob Kendrick of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum join us for a memorable evening of dialogue and recognition, as our organization prepares to play our Game on June 15th at Rickwood Field - the oldest professional ballpark in America that was once home to the Birmingham Black Barons.
On June 1, we kicked off Black Music Appreciation Month with another energetic event, highlighted by a musical collaboration with the legendary pioneers of Hip-Hop, the Wu-Tang Clan. Founding member RZA participated in an honorary jersey exchange with local Hip-Hop artist Larry June, showcasing camaraderie between East and West Coast Hip-Hop music. The evening was a celebration of the profound influence of Black music and its enduring legacy as we hosted the New York Yankees as we as also continue the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop.
