This is not your typical LinkedIn post. I still find myself in disbelief as I attempt to relay how much this story means to me. 🌊 🛰

As part of ICEYE's very generous employee benefits comes a unique one that only they can provide. In your birthday month, you are able to task one of our 30+ satellites to take a Synthetic Aperture Radar (#SAR) image of a place of your choosing. I chose this property on the North Coast of Egypt that holds deep significance in my life. One of my first conscious memories was here, and my family and I would go every summer. It is where I first fell in love with the night sky, discovered my love for #space and the ocean.

By a fortunate stroke of serendipity, I was alerted by my colleague Sakari Sarjakoski that the night I was returning to this North Coast property was the same night that the satellite was tasked to image the location. I was exalted, to put it mildly, to be in the direct path of the #satellite! My family and I smelled an opportunity to leave a unique imprint that would forever say "I was there" whenever I look at the image. We had six hours to build a DIY corner reflector, chart the path of the satellite on our local sky, and get everything in position.

By 02:10:00 local time, three family members and I had everything in place on the balcony including an (admittedly poorly made) corner reflector. We all watched through my tracking software as ICEYE-X19 whizzed through our sky in about 10 minutes. The next morning I was informed that the image capture had been successful. Anurag Kulshrestha, one of our SAR experts, was kind enough to help me interpret the image and we concluded that the corner reflector likely did not leave an anomaly in the underlying data. All that remained now was to use QGIS and photoshop to create a beautiful image that I can now share with you and my family.

By the end of this experience, I learned the basics of: -How to chart the azimuth and elevation on my local sky -Corner reflectors and their placement -Interpreting a SAR image on QGIS -Photoshop editing

Two years ago working in the #spaceindustry was but a dream. I am eternally grateful for everyone that has supported my journey. It's only my 6th month here at #ICEYE, but I can confidently say that it is one of the best places to work. Shameless plug: if you or someone you know is looking for work, you can find the careers page here:
