What type of risk professional are you? The type that says...

  1. No you can't do that, or
  2. Let's work out a way to make it happen

My most enjoyable risk projects I've worked on over the last 25 years were with CEOs and entrepreneurs who wanted to take huge financial and operational risks...the risk takers and the risk makers with large risk appetites.

The last thing a risk taker wants to hear is, "no you can't do that", that would be a slap in the face to them. So in this video, Tom Cruise sacked the 'safety guy' and got another one.

A good risk manager starts with, "fantastic, now let's work out a way to make it happen" and then brings their skills and experiences to the table.

Risk professionals should be enablers, not obstacles.

The NGER legislation establishes a national framework for reporting and disseminating company information about greenhouse gas emissions, energy production, and energy consumption in Australia.

The Climate Change Authority’s (CCA) is required to review the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) legislation every five years. This report is the Australian Government's response to the CCA's 2023 review of the NGER legislation.

The government agrees with many of the CCA’s 25 recommendations, particularly those aimed at enhancing methane emissions measurement, data transparency, and expanding the scope of reporting.

The report has significant implications for businesses, particularly those in high-emission sectors like mining, manufacturing, and agriculture. Impacted businesses will need to: ♻ Phase out outdated estimation methods for fugitive methane emissions. It will require investing in more advanced measurement tools and technologies. ♻ Anticipate a potential increase in compliance costs, particularly for new reporting requirements or the adoption of higher-order estimation methods. Take advantage of government programs and funding aimed at supporting businesses in their transition ♻ Keep up-to-date with emerging measurement and verification methods, particularly those being developed by the Australian government and international bodies. ♻ Strengthen data collection processes to ensure that all emissions data is accurate, consistent, and verifiable. Integrate these regulatory changes into your broader sustainability and net-zero strategy. ♻ Improve transparency and prepare for increased public scrutiny by ensuring that data can be easily shared and understood by stakeholders.

Overall, businesses should prepare for tighter regulations, increased transparency, and the need for technological advancements,
