I definitely love to be inspired by art and the world and life. But it is the habit of sitting my behind in front of my laptop that gets the work done.

"First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won’t. Habit is persistence in practice. You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence." - Octavia E. Butler

I feel like we don't talk enough about the grief around creative work or the grief that can come from creative work.

Whether that is:

a project being canceled a project falling through a project being shelved a project that you can't get made a project that is caught up in a toxic environment and it ruins the creative work creative breakups and divorces being pushed out of projects...

I say all that to say that the grief is real, your grief is real, and I just hope that as we do with our creative practice, that we are also developing therapeutic practices to help us process and work through the very real grief.
