If like me you have kids 👨👩👧👧, yesterday's release of the IPCC 6th Assessment Synthesis Report serves as a stark reminder that #ClimateChange is already impacting every aspect of our lives and the lives of our children. => "Observed (1900–2020) and projected (2021–2100) changes in global surface temperature ... illustrate how the climate has already changed and will change along the lifespan of three representative generations (born in 1950, 1980 and 2020)."🥵😱
We are on the brink of a disaster, but there are also reasons to hope in this report which outlines that “There are multiple opportunities for scaling up climate action”. We have all the solutions we need to shift to low-carbon economic systems. Some of these include solar and wind energy, electrification of urban systems, urban green infrastructure, energy efficiency, demand-side management, improved forest- and crop/grassland management, and reduced food waste and loss. ☀️💨⚡️🔋🔌↘️🌳🥗 "They are technically viable, are becoming increasingly cost effective and are generally supported by the public,” says the report.
Some tiny progress have been made in some part of the world, but not enough: "Despite progress, adaptation gaps exist, and will continue to grow at current rates of implementation." 🖐️ We need to unlock the financial flows 💸to enhance technology innovation systems 💡which is key to accelerate the widespread adoption of technologies and practices.
In a last call for action the report states that “There is a rapidly narrowing window of opportunity to enable climate resilient development” => We need to cut GHG emissions across all sectors and systems URGENTLY, prioritising equity and inclusion, within this decade and no later ! ‼️
