The subtle art of being direct without being offensive - And why it's important.

You would believe that this topic is completely disconnected from the topic of China but it's actually not.

The ones who have lived in China, will most likely instantly see where this discussion is heading since this is such a big characteristic thing among the Chinese, -They are super direct without being offensive.

And here some people might disagree. Pointing out that your face got rounder during the vacation or that a piece of clothes doesn't look on you, to saying that certain job skills are not of best fit for you is always something offensive, period.

I on the other hand really enjoy and appreciate Chinese curiosity and directness, which I also think go hand in hand. Hearing similar things to verbs such as "hairy" or "smelly" is something I just smile at and thank for and that is because I know that it's not to put me down, it's just a neutral observation followed by a statement, no values or emotions attached. If they have they will add those on top as well without blinking.

So how do you do this and why is it important in a world that is more and more sensitive? Well for starters, people can walk around for years, to lifetimes in the West without people pointing out obvious less attractive traits without them ever finding out, and to me, that's not fair.

In China they have the whole "face thing" but it's not so related to this. I mentioned many times that the Chinese are pragmatic and here again, they are, both parties know that comments like this are neutral, hence nobody takes offense. They don't overthink or overdue, they just are neutral which is fantastic.

I witnessed an accident today, a remade Tesla slammed into another less attractive car. Two relatively younger guys step out of the cars, look at the cars, barely talking to each other, call their insurance guys, and that's it. No fight, no arguing, for what good does it do, nothing. Fascinating for sure but also so much better..

Am I right or completely bat 🤪

Only in China

I talk about "China speed" a lot. I also talk about how many things are so different in China compared to the rest of the world. But what I stumbled across just now is a combination of this plus a touch of innovation.

Chinese like most other humans now like and are accustomed to eating meat, and pig meat is now a big part of their daily eating habits.

In classic Chinese style, to scale the production and lower the production costs it's possible to now run into one of these huge constellations.

This is a 26-floor "cube skyscraper" made for breathing pigs, i.e., a massive pig farm. I can't say if the pigs feel better or worse living like this compared to other farms but the size of this is nothing less than impressive, again looking at it from a pragmatic perspective.

I wonder how and when we will start to see other facilities for other products as salads etc, or maybe they are already here and I have just missed it?
