Here's a great 11-second explainer of the new AEMO Electricity Statement Of Opportunities, explaining what needs to happen to move on from coal to a renewables-powered grid
Congratulations to the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), Rachel Thomas and team on publication of today's Draft Determination on better integrating solar, batteries, EVs and flexible electric homes into the energy market with the new 'dispatch mode' rules.
The proposed rule change could significantly improve the ability for households to participate on a level playing field with big energy companies - and highlights that getting it right would conservatively mean at least $800m in lower overall costs for our energy system, plus $8 billion (!!) in benefits to consumers instead of big energy companies.
Haven't seen a lot of discussion about it yet today, but interested in the thoughts of the experts in the space - needs lots more work and discussion, or just get on with it!? Dr Vikki McLeod, Dr Gabrielle Kuiper, Stephanie Bashir, Amy Kean, Brian Spak, who else wants to chime in?
