They say that failure is the stepping stone to success, so why are we still so ashamed to talk about it?
Recently I received an offer to work as a Software Engineer at the Associate level at JPMorgan Chase & Co. I was excited at the prospect of going into the tech field and I was already making plans to move into a new city. Three months of intense studying, networking, and all sorts of logistics led me to this fantastic opportunity, and I was very grateful for the privilege and proud of my achievement. All this, however, only for my offer to be suddenly cancelled over a small technicality without even a formal letter communicating this to me. One week before my starting date I still thought that I had a job, and I had already declined my other offers and summer programs. It was all very quick and without much room for dialogue.
Failure, as well as dealing with it, is not something that we discuss a lot or even value in our society. Personally, I turn to books for advice whenever big life challenges arise. I wanted to share one thing I read in the past few days:
"The ability to take misfortune and make something good come of it is a very rare gift. Those who possess it are called 'survivors', and are said to have 'resilience', or 'courage'. Whatever we call them, it is generally understood that they are exceptional people who have overcome great hardships, and have surmounted obstacles that would daunt most men and women".
So here I am, starting all over again from zero, but somehow feeling more prepared than ever before. Wish me luck! #embracefailure
