1987 predictions about the future of technology
Let's go back in time to look at the future
In 1987, the BBC released a video that imagined what the future of technology would look like.
The video featured a number of predictions, some of which have come true and others that have not.
Here are seven of the technologies that were featured in the video:
🔴 A chemically treated suit that maintains a constant body temperature.
🔴 A few smart cards and a hologram of your family.
🔴 A fingerprint-activated door lock.
🔴 A small sensor under the tongue that analyzes saliva and changes the color of a tie to indicate health problems.
🔴 A satellite-connected watch that can receive information from any computer in the world.
🔴 A briefcase printer that can print out information.
🔴 A 3D TV that can be used to cut oneself off from the outside world while sitting in public transport.
Some of these predictions have come true, such as the fingerprint-activated door lock and the satellite-connected watch.
Others, such as the hologram of the family and the 3D TV, have not been as widely adopted.
The video also raises some interesting questions about the future of technology.
It's fascinating to see how the BBC's predictions have played out over the years.
