Frederick Ilchman

Chair, Art of Europe at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Frederick Ilchman is an experienced art museum professional and curator with a specialization in Italian Renaissance painting, particularly focusing on 16th-century Venice and artists like Jacopo and Domenico Tintoretto, Titian, and Paolo Veronese.

With an extensive educational background, he holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Art History, a Master's Degree in Art History and Archaeology, and a Bachelor's Degree in Art and Archaeology, summa cum laude.

Currently, Frederick Ilchman leads a department at a prestigious art museum with a team of eight, overseeing curators of European paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts, as well as support staff, managing one of the largest collections of European art in North America.

He has held significant roles at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, including serving as the Chair of Art of Europe and the former Mrs. Russell W. Baker Curator of Paintings.

Additionally, Frederick Ilchman has been affiliated with the Center for Curatorial Leadership and has previous experience as an Assistant Curator of Paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
