𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 (rebranded as product discovery) is continuous and ongoing.

Product planning, the process of process of identifying and articulating the users' market problem, never stops and embodies an ongoing real-time market data collection and analysis process.

The decision to approve and introduce a new product feature is a judgment call.

There is no formula or metric to aid in making that decision. It is purely in the product manager's purview to be sufficiently convinced based on their domain knowledge to decide to commit resources for a specific feature.

In regard to the release of a new product or product version relative to the product's feature set, the Blackblot PMTK® Methodology suggests two methods:

🚅 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱—The metaphoric product train is leaving the station at a future predetermined date. All ready and available product features can climb aboard and be shipped with the product on that date.

🅾️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱—For a product to be released, a certain number and type of features need to be present in its feature set. The product will be released only when that critical mass of features is achieved.
