Gareth Leng

Head of School of Biomedical Sciences at University of Edinburgh

Gareth Leng is a highly qualified individual with a BSc in Mathematics from Warwick in 1974, an MSc in Neurocommunications from Birmingham in 1975, and a PhD also from Birmingham in 1977, focusing on cochlear transduction mechanisms.

Following his studies, Gareth worked as a project leader at The Babraham Institute, Cambridge, and later became a Professor of Experimental Physiology at the University of Edinburgh in November 1994.

Since 2008, Gareth Leng has held the position of Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh.

Gareth has been actively involved in various organizations, such as being a Founder Committee member, treasurer, and secretary of the British Neuroendocrine Group, which is now known as the British Society for Neuroendocrinology (BSN).

His editorial experiences include serving as the Secretary of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Physiology from 1993 to 1996, Editor-in-Chief of 'The Journal of Neuroendocrinology' between 1997 and 2004, and becoming President of the International Neuroendocrine Federation in 2012.

In recognition of his contributions, Gareth Leng was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2012, and he has also been granted honorary membership by the British Society for Neuroendocrinology.

Gareth Leng's expertise and leadership in the field of biomedical sciences are evident through his distinguished career and various roles within academic and scientific societies.
