We developed an in-house RNA extraction/purification kit and a 1-pot RT-qPCR assay to detect HIV and SARS-CoV2 in patients. The cost per sample extraction is <$1 relative to $6 for the standard Qiagen extraction. This workflow has been used for Covid-19 diagnosis and HIV load monitoring in HIV-infected patients in Africa. This inexpensive diagnostic workflow is an affordable solution for poor countries where cost is the barrier.
The dots are only connected by looking backward. My learning with #Nanoformulations and #RNA starts making sense. I am using these experiences for the development of RNA vaccine that gives me tremendous satisfaction.
Happy to share my previous publications on electronic patches. This was a very challenging patch study on hairless guinea pig to demonstrate delivery. A microdilysis membrane was inserted in the dermis to directly capture nicotine from the device on skin. Flow pump and fraction collector were attached to the microdilysis tubing. It was 48h study, required blood collections and device ON/OFF at every 6h. Failed many times but thoughtful scientific discussion with peers was the key to success.
