Roughly 3 years ago I was doing a store walk like I did every morning at Earth Fare in our Asheville store. I was rounding out the produce department, heading into coffee and bulk and I saw this little gal, maybe 90lbs soaking wet, climbing a small ladder with a large bulk bag of granola or nuts that weighed somewhere between 25 and 50lbs over her shoulder so she could empty it in the bulk bin.
I had a position to hire for and I had heard good things about her so I pulled her aside shortly after that and asked her if she would be interested in working for the grocery team. I could use that passion and work ethic and mold it. I hired her.
Her name was Victoria Meece and she quickly learned everything we needed to and more. She would help out other departments, she would make my teams jobs easier. She always wanted to help. She interacted with our vendor and broker partners flawlessly. If she wasn't doing something right - she was quick to fix it. We all appreciated her so much.
Victoria had been diagnosed with cancer about 1.5yrs ago and was in the fight of her life. She did not let on how bad it was - we kind of always thought she was recovering and maybe it was normal and part of the recovery process. Unfortunately - last Wednesday her fight ended and the severe pain she was in is no more.
If you knew or appreciated Victoria - there is a link you can donate some $ to for causes she supported.
Cancer is a bitch and 38yrs is far too young. We'll miss her.
