If you need to sell your accounting firm quickly, pricing low is one strategy, but there are other steps you can take to speed up the process:

  1. Have all standard due diligence documents ready before a buyer even asks. This typically includes:
  • Profit & Loss statements for the past two years

  • Full compensation details for all employees and contractors (salary, bonus, hourly, etc.) for the previous year

  • Latest balance sheet and work-in-progress (WIP) reports

  • A client list with relationship duration, approximate client age, services provided, and collections from the past year.

  1. Identify your non-negotiables in advance and communicate them early on, so negotiations can focus on areas where flexibility is possible.

  2. Engage an advisor experienced in accounting firm acquisitions to help set realistic expectations, facilitate negotiations, and advocate on your behalf.
