George Calin

Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center

George Calin is an accomplished professional with vast experience in the field of cancer genomics and molecular pathology.

He obtained both his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Carol Davila University of Medicine in Bucharest, Romania, and has received extensive training in cancer genomics from University of Ferrara, Italy, and Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Calin made a groundbreaking discovery of the connection between microRNAs and human cancers while working at Dr. Carlo Croce's laboratory, a significant contribution to the field of microRNA research.

Currently, as a Professor in Translational Molecular Pathology and Leukemia Departments at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, he focuses on investigating the roles of microRNAs and non-coding RNAs in cancer initiation and progression, immune disorders, and cancer predisposition linked to non-coding RNAs.

Moreover, Dr. Calin explores the potential of body fluid miRNAs as hormones and biomarkers, and he researches new RNA therapeutic approaches for cancer patients.

With a passion for making discoveries, publishing research, securing grant funding, and having fun along the way, George Calin's contributions to the field of molecular pathology and cancer research are highly regarded.
