It's the most exciting time of the year again as I start my training and fundraising for this year's Trailmixer - OUT Hiking for Our Community, Inc. climbs to make the outdoors a safer, more accessible place for low-income LGBTQ+ youth in the LA area! I’m so excited, but I can’t do it without you.
Trailmixer’s mission of making the outdoors a safer, more accessible place for minority communities is incredibly important to me as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and as someone who has greatly benefitted from outdoor experiences. The effects of inequitable access to nature and the outdoors have broad and deep implications for the individuals experiencing it and the future of our natural spaces. I can’t change this on my own, but that’s why I’ve been climbing with Trailmixer for three years now. On my own, I’ve raised almost $10,000 personally from climbing, and I’ve written grants for Trailmixer to secure nearly $30,000 in funding to grow the organization so we can have the greatest impact possible.
Last year, I climbed over 300 miles and raised almost $6,000 for Trailmixer’s OUTdoor Access Fund by climbing Mt. San Gorgonio, Middle Sister and South Sister in Bend, Oregon, and backpacking for 5 days in Kings Canyon Wilderness. I’m doing it all again this year, bagging Cloudripper near Bishop, CA, and embarking on a five-day 58-mile journey through the Evolution Valley in Kings Canyon National Park, crossing three mighty passes along the way with a goal of raising $5,000. I am asking for your support this year as I start training for these climbs to raise money for the OUTdoor Access Fund. To start off the year, I am matching the first $1000 of donations! Help me get off to a strong start by making a tax-deductible donation to my fundraiser here: https://bit.ly/3FOFNI3
