Highlights
The C-Suite is missing out on LinkedIn. According to my 15+ years of experience working with C-level executives, most don't "get it" when it comes to leveraging LinkedIn. A LinkedIn profile is crucial for a member of the C-suite for a number of reasons.
Here are just a few considerations every exec needs to manage their LinkedIn profile. Click on the article link below for more insight.
-
FACE OF THE COMPANY. A well-maintained LinkedIn profile reflects positively on the company.
-
PERSONAL BRANDING. A CEO or other C-suite member must showcase their skills, accomplishments, and expertise to differentiate them from their competitors.
-
THOUGHT LEADERSHIP. C-suiters should share their insights and knowledge through articles, posts, and comments, establishing themselves as thought leaders in their field.
-
SALES. 66% say they would be more likely to recommend a company or brand if they followed a company executive on social media.
-
NETWORKING. CEOs, CMOs, and others must go outside their four walls to connect with industry peers, potential partners, investors, and other key stakeholders.
A complete and compelling profile makes networking easier, providing a more robust perspective and always being open to learning. It's the new executive business card. If you don't think a perfect LinkedIn profile can help, contact Gerry at [email protected].

When you scroll your favorite news feed what makes you stop out of the hundreds of stories that bid for your attention? The headline? The graphic? The publication?
Some call the attention-grabbing clickbait. Others call it plain old differentiation.
I'm siding with differentiating yourself.
In 2022, over 72M people left their jobs. So how different do you think each of them looks — whether it's on their resume or on the LinkedIn platform?
Think of the resumes, cover letters, and interviews that were expertly created (or cobbled together) as part of the transition from one gig to the next.
Think of how many times “I have to update my LinkedIn” was mumbled. I’m mumbling to myself thinking about it!
With 50.4 M of those job leavers having left their job voluntarily, and another 22M seeking their next move with a bit more desperation, how do they differentiate themselves in a pool of similar-looking candidates?
A LINKEDIN PROFILE IS ONLY THE FRONT DOOR OF A PERSON’S REPUTATION DESTINATION
Having a great profile shows that you can walk the talk, and a minimal buy-in for the 72M looking for a new job (in 2022). While LinkedIn profiles ARE NOT resumes, most do seem to play that role — mostly underserving it. Having a great personal branding-driven front door gets more hiring managers to knock on it! right?
VERY FEW PEOPLE POST ON LINKEDIN
99% of people do not post on the platform, making it easier to become a part of the 1% Club! Being part of this 1% Club gets you exclusive access to others’ newsfeeds to capture attention and engage others with your exclusive point of view — a differentiator.
NO ONE COMMENTS WITH CONVICTION ON LINKEDIN
Aside from a “great post” or “love this, Pat” comment, few read another’s post and offer a thoughtful response. Can you imagine if all your friends did was to talk at you —- and not listen and respond? They’d be a walking advertisement.
Listening and responding to others LinkedIn posts gets you noticed, especially when no one else is doing what I'm here for. People post to get noticed, so indulge them to gain visibility and traction in their circle.
VERY FEW START MEANINGFUL 1-1 CONVERSATIONS ON LINKEDIN
The goal of most job seekers is to start a conversation and to move to an interview, right? However, you just cannot go from an InMail to an interview. So, you have to build your cred with your LinkedIn profile, posts, and comments to want the right for a 1-1 conversation.
With 72,000,000 job seekers trying to connect with future employers, I’d say most are getting it wrong when it comes to leveraging LinkedIn.
Most do. I’ve seen it with my clients. I’ve seen it with the executives, sales teams, and professionals I’ve worked with at SAP and Cognizant, where I built both social media programs from scratch.
So, do you think most job seekers lack a differentiation strategy to catch your attention?
