Getachew Taa

Getachew Ta'a is a seasoned professional with nearly 20 years of experience in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

With a background rooted in the National Society context, he transitioned to an international career within the IFRC, where he contributed significantly to various roles.

Starting in the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, he held diverse positions over a decade, culminating in the role of Secretary General from 2001 to 2005.

In his current role within the Europe zone team since May 2012, Getachew leads National Society development initiatives and core support services.

Having served as a regional Movement coordinator in East Africa, he engaged with 14 National Societies, focusing on disaster-affected societies and facilitating various coordination efforts.

During his tenure in Nairobi, he spearheaded capacity building efforts, planned regional meetings, and collaborated with different networks to enhance organizational effectiveness.

Getachew's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Sociology, along with a Diploma in Law with a special training in negotiation skills.

He has worked as a Federation Representative and advisor in Namibia, Nigeria, and Yemen, demonstrating a deep understanding of National Societies' needs and guiding them through transformative change processes.

Getachew Ta'a is a dedicated professional who brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the humanitarian field.

He is a married individual and a loving father of four children.
