Many popular restaurant chains are filing for bankruptcy and citing third-party platforms as part of the main reason. This article notes that "around 30-40 percent of orders are now made through third-party carryout and delivery apps, with commissions negatively impacting sales... A commission rate of between 15-18 percent depending upon the provider, coupled with related packaging costs of 4 per cent, make these sales less profitable." Restaurants deserve an equal playing field to be able to continue to operate.
Last Thursday, I was re-sworn in to the Board of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce by Vice Mayor Lana Negrete. It's been a privilege to serve as the Chair of the Government Affairs Committee over the past year, tackling policy issues that greatly impact the future of Santa Monica.
Hats off to Judy Kruger on executing such a fantastic event, and a big congratulations to our new fearless Board leader, Jasson Crockett!
