One of the most interesting pieces of the #inflationreductionact is the call for domesticating the #battery #supplychain .

  1. Assembling battery packs in the USA: ✅

  2. Assembling modules in the USA: ✅

  3. Sourcing cells made in the USA today: not so easy in 2022 (unless you are Tesla/Panasonic or GM/LG) but that should be changing soon with many US cell producers coming online in the next two years. Most of the cell production in the US are dedicated partnerships where 100% of the cell maker's capacity is slated for one OEM - but I predict that won't be the case in 2 years.

  4. Sourcing raw materials for batteries in the USA: very difficult, so it's interesting to see the initiatives like this cobalt mine in Idaho coming back online.

To meet the need of the rapidly growing domestic EV industry and to gain some independence with a domestic supply chain, we'll need to kick off a lot more local sourcing, local refining, and improve our recycling capability / scale.

All of these projects take time, so we better get going!
