Gita V. Johar, a highly accomplished academic, holds a PhD from NYU and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. With a tenure at Columbia Business School since 1992, she currently serves as the Meyer Feldberg Professor of Business and as the Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

During her time at Columbia Business School, Professor Johar has held various key roles including Senior Vice Dean, Vice Dean for Research, Director of the Columbia Business School Behavioral Lab, and Chair of the Faculty Steering Committee for the Columbia Global Centers - South Asia in Mumbai.

Her expertise in consumer psychology centers on consumer reactions to marketing strategies such as advertising, promotions, and sponsorship. She also delves into the impact of consumer self-control and perceptions of control on decision making and consumption, translating her insights into effective communication strategies. Professor Johar is recognized for her publications in esteemed marketing and psychology journals on consumer persuasion and decision-making.

Additionally, Gita Johar has a strong background in teaching, offering courses on Advertising and Branding, Global Immersion in India and Myanmar, Research Methods, and Consumer Behavior to MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD students. She has also authored cases on consumer adoption of new products, marketing, and advertising planning.
