For The Art of Excellence podcast, I like to identify people who have climbed to the upper echelons in their fields. Formula 1 race car designer Adrian Newey is such a person. He is the Red Bull Racing Chief Technical Officer and considered by many to be the greatest race car designer in the history of the sport.

During my interview I discovered a number of his superpowers. One that stood out was his holistic thinking he applies to his craft. Adrian is one of the few designers who is trained across all three disciplines: aerodynamics, vehicle design, and vehicle dynamics/simulation.

There are constant tradeoffs between design and engineering and Adrian is well equipped to visualize those tradeoffs and optimize the performance of the vehicle. That multi-disciplinary language also allows him to "speak the language" of each of the teams he oversees which allows him to earn their trust and credibility.

Candidly I was not a Formula 1 racing fan when I did this interview. But I've since become a huge fan of Adrian's! You don't have to be into car racing to learn a thing or two from this mastermind.

Hope you enjoy this interview. You can find it here: https://bit.ly/4dnTAUE or iTunes and Spotify.
