My daughter is 7 and has started her first “job,” selling Girl Scout cookies.
You have probably noticed your Instagram and Facebook feeds have been flooded with annoyingly adorable videos of all the little girls in your life joining in on the time-honored tradition of selling Girl Scout cookies. Those brightly colored boxes containing of sacred once-a-year only available cookies can be recognized in a second from a mile away. Everyone has their favorite cookie and is prepared to defend why and how it’s better than your favorite. I will admit I was relieved when Gwen’s troop decided to skip selling last year. Who has time for this. However, this year it’s on! She is ready and excited for the work ahead. As a working Mom who wants Gwen to know she can do anything I am using this opportunity to instill some confidence and character building. I'm encouraging and supporting her strategic cookie approach to the season, and she has already blown me away with her savvy ideas and melted my heart with her dedication to succeed. If you are in the Newark or NYC area and want to support her endeavor this is her selling page (I’ll hand deliver your cookies this Spring): https://lnkd.in/eivndi5P Gwen’s approach to selling Girl Scout Cookies: -Know your product- Gwen is getting to know the products. How they look and what they are made of seems of great interest to her. She pointed out that although there are peanut butter options it’s smart to think about getting some none-nut ones to pack for school lunches. I like her persuasive selling point here since peanut butter is so restricted these days. -Use the Power of Social Media - She knows what social media is in theory… but isn’t aware of the demographics behind each and that I'm not cool enough for some platforms. She suggested we made a “TikTok video” next of us singing or dancing to get the word out. I told her we will think about that one this weekend. -Leveraging one’s network- Gwen is making a comprehensive list and thinking about everyone from family, neighbors, and friends to her babysitters too. She even asked if selling to her teachers at dance, gymnastic or ski lessons would be appropriate this weekend. Perhaps I should let her hit them up… after all she can still do none of those things despite going to classes week after week.
Drop a comment to tell me your favorite cookie and the first five people who share the same favorite as me will receive a free box on us.
