Exciting milestone achieved! 👏

Happy to announce the conclusion of negotiations on the EU-Singapore Digital Trade Agreement (EUSDTA) at Brussels, Belgium yesterday, together with European Commission EVP for an Economy that Works for People and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis.

🤝 As the first Digital Trade Agreement between the EU and an ASEAN country, the EUSDTA will provide clarity and legal certainty for companies and consumers on the rules for digital trade between Singapore and the EU, strengthen digital connectivity and interoperability between our markets, and enable our people to access greater opportunities in the #digitaleconomy.

🇸🇬 🇪🇺EVP Dombrovskis and I also convened the second EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA) Trade Committee meeting. We affirmed the smooth implementation and effective functioning of the EUSFTA, and had productive discussions on ways to enhance trade relations between the EU and Singapore.

💪 I look forward to the continued #SingaporeEU partnership, and building on our strong trade and digital cooperation to bring greater benefits to our people and companies.

And now, onto the second leg of my trip: Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games to cheer on #TeamSingapore! 🇸🇬

Glad to meet Google’s Chief Sustainability Officer Kate Brandt and the team during her visit to Singapore earlier this week, following the launch of Google’s fourth data centre in Singapore. We discussed Google’s deep commitment to sustainability, and the ways they have been leveraging technology to reduce the environmental impact of their operations. We also talked about how the information services provided on Google’s platforms can empower companies and individuals to optimise their operations, strengthen their climate mitigation or adaptation efforts and reduce emissions.

There is immense potential for technological innovations, such as generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), to be a game-changer in reducing the carbon footprint of economies and improving the resilience of communities. I look forward to collaborating with Google on our collective sustainability journey and unlocking more innovative solutions together!
