Your pay should come from the value you create.
In high school, I enrolled in a dual credit program to learn carpentry as part of my apprenticeship.
By the time I graduated, I was already building houses.
In my first year alone, I think we built around ten houses.
I was quickly picking up skills. I remember I was leading projects and teaching others at this stage.
A year in and I realized I was still getting paid the same as when I started.
New hires were coming in, getting the same pay as me, even though I was the one leading the projects.
So, I did what I thought was fair.
I asked my boss for a raise.
His response?
Uh, no. You can’t get a raise unless you’ve worked X amount of time.
Soon enough, I found another job doing renovations, working with a small business.
Funny enough, my old boss offered me more money after I told him I was leaving.
But by then, my decision was made.
Tenure is important, but I believe value is even more important.
Employers - make sure valuable contributors are paid accordingly.
Employees - create as much value as possible.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reflecting on a simple truth in sales:
The more it feels like selling, the less it sells.
We’ve all been there—pushing hard to close a deal, thinking that applying more pressure will bring better results.
But the reality is, people don’t want to be sold to. They want to feel understood.
When you focus too much on the sale, you lose sight of what really matters:
Solving the customer’s problem.
It’s not about convincing them to buy. It’s about showing them how you can help.
When you listen, understand, and offer real solutions, the sale often takes care of itself.
So, next time you’re in a meeting, remember: the more it feels like selling, the less it sells.
