Greg Moore

Greg Moore, born Gregory William Moore on April 22, 1975, was a Canadian professional race car driver known for his achievements in the Indy Lights and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) series. He began his racing career in karting at the age of ten and quickly progressed through various racing series, including the Canadian Formula Ford Championship and USAC FF2000. Moore won the 1995 Indy Lights Championship and made his CART debut in 1996 with Forsythe Racing, where he finished ninth in the drivers' championship and was named Rookie of the Year.13

Throughout his career, Moore competed in 72 CART races, securing five victories and 17 podium finishes. He was particularly noted for his skills on oval tracks. Tragically, his career was cut short when he died in a racing accident at the Marlboro 500 in California on October 31, 1999. His car collided with a concrete barrier during the race, marking him as the second driver to be killed in CART that year. Following his death, Moore's car number 99 was retired as a tribute, and the Greg Moore Foundation was established to honor his legacy through charitable initiatives. He was posthumously inducted into both the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame and the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.123
