Gustavo Cardoso

Full Professor (Catedrático) at ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa

Gustavo Cardoso is a distinguished researcher at CIES, ISCTE-IUL and a Full Professor of Media, Technology, and Society at the Sociology Department of ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute in Portugal. He is actively engaged in academia, with affiliations with the Department of Communications and Performance Studies at the University of Milan and the Lisbon School of Communication (ESCS).

His research extends internationally through collaborations with prominent European research networks, including IN3 (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute) in Barcelona, WIP (World Internet Project) at USC Annenberg, and various COST research networks like A20, 298, and IS0906. He has held advisory roles in Information Society and telecommunications policies for the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic and was recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2008.

A prolific writer, Gustavo Cardoso has co-edited books such as "Network Society: from Knowledge to Policy" with Manuel Castells and "World Wide Internet" with Jeff Cole and Angus Cheong. He serves as an Associate Editor for prestigious journals like OBS, IJOC, and IC&S. Additionally, he actively participates in evaluating projects for the European Research Council (ERC), the Marie Curie program, and the ESF (European Science Foundation).

Gustavo Cardoso holds a Ph.D. in Communication and Media Studies from ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and has completed Executive Education in Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He also serves as the Director of OberCom (Media Observatory in Lisbon) and provides advisory expertise to various national and international organizations.
