Hamza Hawkins is a tech enthusiast whose journey in software engineering began at the young age of 10. Growing up, he was fascinated by technology after encountering a computer virus that led him to explore scripting languages, paving the way for his future in programming. Throughout his high school years, Hamza further developed his skills by programming robots and creating video games, showcasing an early interest in innovative technology and coding from a young age.
Hamza’s educational background is rooted in his studies at the University of the District of Columbia, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, graduating in December 2020. His proactive approach to learning and growth in the field is evident through his diverse internships, most notably his seven consecutive summers as a software engineering intern at Microsoft. This extraordinary commitment not only honed his technical skills but also provided him with invaluable insights into the tech industry and its evolving nature.
In addition to his tenure at Microsoft, Hamza has gained significant experience working in various tech roles. He has served as a software engineer at CodeIntelx, and he is recognized for his leadership skills through his former positions, including the Lead Software Engineer at BRAQS. His entrepreneurial spirit is reflected in his roles as the founder of ABlackGent and Snikwah, where he applied his software expertise in innovative ways. Hamza has also greatly contributed to education as a Teacher Assistant at the University of the District of Columbia and a teacher for STEAM+CS programs aimed at immersing students in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. His experience as a customer service sales associate and computer technician has equipped him with a well-rounded understanding of technology and service, making him an effective communicator and collaborator.
