I’m job hunting and after lots of interviews as of late, I am honestly getting a bit bored… that is until the other day when I had one of the best interviews to date.
So many interviews follow the same script, “tell me about yourself”, “what is your greatest strength”, “tell me about a time when…”. These questions are fine and serve their purpose when interviewing candidates, but are you really gaining what you are looking for? And beyond that, as an interviewee am I learning anything about the company/role? I’m not so sure.
I was caught off guard the other day when an interview didn’t follow this script. The interviewer asked me to actually SOLVE and give my opinion on some of the problems/situations that they are facing in their business today. These questions not only allowed me to demonstrate my analytical thinking skills and experience, but it also allowed me to get a taste for the role.
I left the interview even more excited about the company and the potential to work with them!
What do you think? Is this something that you put into your recruiting practice?
What is the best interview that you have ever had?
