Harold Fuson

Harold W. 'Hal' Fuson is a distinguished media leader, lawyer, teacher, and writer who retired from newspapering in 2009 after a long and successful career with The Copley Press, including negotiating the sale of The San Diego Union-Tribune. With over two decades as Copley's chief legal advisor, he also held the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer. Hal has been actively involved in various media trade organizations and received national recognition for his work in protecting First Amendment rights. Apart from his professional contributions, he has engaged in philanthropic endeavors by serving on the boards of San Diego's Old Globe Theatre, San Diego Symphony, and the First Amendment Coalition. Hal's educational background includes a J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, an M.S. from Columbia University, and a BA in Political Science from Grinnell College. He resides in Encinitas, CA, with his spouse, Pam Crist Fuson.
